Artist Inspiration: Calvin Burnett (Waller)

Calvin Burnett was a painter. printmaker, collage artist, drawer and educator. He illustrated many books and wrote an instructional drawing book, "Objective Drawing Techniques" (1965). His work was a reflection of the post-World War II African American art community. Burnett’s  work ranged from studies of people to abstract . He experimented with the use of metallic paints, using spray cans and other techniques to apply pigment to his surfaces. He cut, sliced, and folded painted canvas to create low relief compositions.
